Study 1: Finance and Human Resources
Challenge
Insource was hired by a non-profit education company to provide
financial management, bookkeeping and human resources
services. Shortly after Insource commenced work, the
organization’s CEO resigned and the Board of Directors requested
Insource provide interim operational management. Following were
their key issues:
- They were without a president for nearly a year
- Their director of finance and administration had recently
departed
- The company lacked a seasoned general manager who could keep
the company on-course during this transitional period
- The organization had a lean, inexperienced administrative
staff due to recent layoffs
Approach
Insource coordinated all company decisions and
was put in charge of managing daily operations at the request of the
Board of Directors.
In order to impose structure on the organization,
Insource:
- Conferred with the Board of Directors to determine business
goals and priorities
- Organized, developed, and chaired weekly management team and
staff meetings to level set the organization’s existing
communications and operational procedures
- Conducted an organizational audit and developed a report
assessing the current program and administrative functions while
offering recommendations for improvements
- Communicated with the Board of Directors regularly to share
findings, report progress, come to consensus on issues and
concerns, agree on next steps
- Provided senior level leadership and a "go-to"
resource for all company stakeholders
Results
Insource entered a rudderless company and
provided leadership that inspired management, guided staff and
reassured the Board of Directors.
Eight months later when the company hired a new
president, he took the helm of an organization that operated like a
well-oiled machine instead of one devoid of process, communication
or organization.
Additionally, to ease the transition, Insource:
- Shared internal audit report
- Provided an organized orientation complete with company
history and context
- Provided ongoing counsel on organizational issues
- Expedited the president establishing a leadership position by
enabling the seamless continuation of progress started by
Insource
Today the company is thriving.

Study 2: Finance
Challenge
A non-profit foundation, spun-off from a larger
organization that provided financial, accounting, human resources,
payroll and other administrative services, wanted to become
completely independent, and as such, needed to either internally
staff or outsource to an autonomous group. Leaning toward the
latter, they searched for a responsive, adaptable, and independent
service and hired Insource Services.
Approach
Insource evaluated the organizations approach in
light of their stated mission and:
- Developed a cost-efficient outsourced staffing model
- Standardized processes and integration that allowed for
strategy development on the front-end with complete back office
implementation
- Established key personnel charged with fulfilling bookkeeping,
accounting, financial management, investment fund accounting,
planning and forecasting, and human resources services
Insource became fully integrated in the non-profit’s daily
operations. Financial reports were prepared and reviewed monthly
with the Executive Director. Additionally, throughout the year on an
as-needed basis, Insource provided human resources support to
address labor needs and issues.
Results
Insource was instrumental in the non-profit’s successful
migration to an independent entity fully capable of delivering on
its mission.

Study 3: Finance
Challenge
A non-profit preschool and day care center was in
dire need of professional help to control and manage all financial
aspects of its organization. Their previous accounting services firm
had abruptly ceased operation leaving the non-profit with a
six-month backlog of critical financial issues.
Approach
Entering a near-crisis situation, Insource immediately provided
all of the transitional and financial triage services needed to
bring the non-profit’s accounting up to date. Insource:
- Created a transition plan to become fully immersed in the
non-profit’s finances
- Standardized processes and complied with appropriate
regulatory accounting practices
- Reviewed records for the past fiscal year under management and
brought up to date
- Reviewed terms of all government contracts
Results
Just a few short months after engaging Insource, the non-profit
was made current on all outstanding accounting issues, and systems
in place that ensured uninterrupted workflow and ongoing
sustainability.
