Getting to Know You: HR Team Lead and consulting HR Director, Karynn Needel

In this installment of our Recruitment Series, we’re thrilled to feature Karynn Needel, one of our HR Teams leads and a consulting Director, who has been with Insource for over 11 years. Karynn’s journey with Insource is a testament to the company’s culture of growth, collaboration, and impact.

A Journey That Began Over a Decade Ago
Karynn joined Insource after a diverse career that included consulting and leading the HR Department for an investment banking firm. When asked how she found Insource, Karynn humorously admits she doesn’t quite remember, but her connection with Saleha, our HR practice founder, marked the beginning of an incredible partnership.

Starting part-time, Karynn brought her network and clients with her. Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in growing the HR team to where it is today.

An Unconventional Start
Reflecting on her early days, Karynn recalls an informal interview process that involved several chats over meals at Panera. This laid-back approach helped both parties feel comfortable and set the tone for a collaborative working relationship.

Rising to the Challenges
Karynn’s initial goals were to bring structure to her work and build on the processes Saleha had created. However, she quickly faced the challenge of managing a larger client base—transitioning from handling 10 clients as a consultant, working for herself to managing over 20 at Insource.

“The juggle was real!” Karynn says, but she embraced the opportunity to grow and adapt.

A Day in the Life of Karynn
Karynn thrives in the dynamic environment at Insource. “There’s no such thing as a typical day,” she explains. While each day starts with a plan, the variety of tasks ensures there’s always something new to tackle.

Support and Growth
One of the standout aspects of Karynn’s experience is the support she receives from senior leadership. The company has also fostered her personal and professional growth, including the opportunity to work with an executive coach.

Building a Legacy
When asked what makes her most proud, Karynn doesn’t hesitate: her team. “They make me proud every single day,” she shares. From supporting each other to achieving collective success, the team embodies the values that define Insource.

Karynn values Insource’s unique blend of being a large, growing company while maintaining the connectedness of a small organization. “There’s not a lot of red tape here,” she explains. “Everyone is empowered to get stuff done, and everyone at every level has an impact.”

Life Outside of Work
When she’s not leading the HR team, Karynn loves spending time with her friends and family, cooking, baking, and enjoying her house by the water. For her, food is a way to express love and bring people together.
