Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month
Each November, Men’s Health Awareness Month encourages us to focus not only on physical well-being but also on the mental health of men in our communities and workplaces. While initiatives like Movember have raised important awareness about men’s physical health, it’s equally important to talk openly about emotional well-being. For many men, stigma and long-held expectations around toughness or self-reliance can make it difficult to ask for help when they’re struggling. The reality is that one in eight men experiences symptoms of depression, and one in five faces anxiety. Yet, men are significantly less likely to seek mental health support. Tragically, men account for nearly three-quarters of suicides each year. These numbers highlight the importance of breaking the silence and making mental health conversations a normal part of everyday life — including at work.
At Insource Services, we believe that caring for mental health is just as important as caring for physical health. Creating a workplace where employees feel safe to talk about their wellbeing — without fear of judgment — can make a meaningful difference. Checking in with a colleague, encouraging open conversations, or reminding team members about available support services are small actions that can have a big impact. This November, let’s all do our part to challenge stigma and support one another. Whether it’s through active listening, kindness, or simply asking “How are you doing, really?”, we can help create a culture where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength.
At Insource Services, our HR team partners with organizations to create workplaces that support the whole person — mind and body. We help employers develop and communicate mental health and wellness policies that reduce stigma and promote support, implement or enhance Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and connect staff to mental health resources, train managers on how to recognize signs of stress or burnout and respond with empathy, and foster an inclusive culture that prioritizes psychological safety and open communication. Together, we can build workplaces — and communities — where everyone feels supported, valued, and heard.
